Veneers
Veneers can provide an instant boost to your smile – with treatment often completed in just one visit. Veneers are ideal ways of treating unsightly, cracked, or discoloured teeth or can also be used to help close gaps between teeth. They can also improve the appearance of misaligned teeth.
They are thin shells of ceramic, a little like ‘false nails’ for teeth, and are bonded to the front of your tooth. They can be used to hide discolouration and close gaps, with little or no work being needed on the tooth itself, making them kinder to teeth than other cosmetic treatments. Layers of the translucent, ceramic porcelain allow light to shine through, resulting in brighter, natural-looking teeth. When used on multiple teeth, veneers from Mckenzies Dental Surgery in Sevenoaks can dramatically re-model your entire smile.
Usually made from porcelain or a composite material, veneers are thin custom made covers placed on the front of teeth to sort out the following issues:
- poorly formed or wrongly positioned teeth
- unsightly gaps
- discolouration that is unaffected by tooth whitening
- chipped or broken teeth
Firstly, a very small amount (usually less than a millimetre) of enamel is removed which is roughly the same thickness as the veneer.
When the veneer has been made, and after the tooth has been thoroughly cleaned, the tooth coloured shell is bonded to the front of the prepared tooth with a resin cement that is hardened using a special light.
